Balance of trade deficit has significantly increased this year, assess the specialists of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce. An assessment of the commercial situation was made on Friday by the minister of Economy and Commerce Valeriu Lazar, during a round table where the representatives of the ministry and economic agents from the country have met. According to Lazar, if by the end of the last year the balance of trade deficit was of about 800mln USD, the covering of the imports from exports being of 56%, than the situation in the first quarter of the current year against the similar period of the last year is “worse”. In the first quarter of the year, the rate of import increase (+29%) has exceeded that of export (+7%) and as a result, the negative balance of the trade deficit increased 1.8 times against the similar period of last year. <\/p>\n

A detailed analysis of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce indicates that the increase of the trade deficit with Ukraine – one of the most important commercial partners of the Republic of Moldova – is considered as main cause of the increased values of negative balance of trade deficit. 4% of the goods imported by Moldova from this country, mainly agroalimentary products, could be produced in our country as well, mentioned Lazar. According to the source: “there is a wide range of products imported from abroad that could be substituted or fabricated in Moldova, without too many technological efforts or financial necessities.” <\/p>\n

On the other hand, the economic agents sought from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce to pay attention to the fact that the majority of products sold in commercial centers from the country are imported.
