\nMoldovan farmers have almost finished the spring campaign, in spite of rainfalls, which stopped some works for a couple of days, especially the seeding. <\/p>\n

Anatol Gorodenco, minister of agriculture and food industry, told a meeting with chiefs of agriculture directorates in district councils that the seeding of sunflower, corn, barley, sugar beet, pea is almost over. The sunflower was seeded on 212,400 hectares, compared with 253,000 hectares in 2004, corn 200,000 hectares, and spring barley 59,200 hectares. The seeding will be over by May 20. <\/p>\n

The chairman of the agri-food policy directorate in the ministry, Pintilie Parvan, said that farmers will seed another 20,000 hectares with buckwheat the next weeks, 6,000 hectares with bean, and alfalfa and soy on other small fields. <\/p>\n

Farmers seeded sugar beet on only 75 percent (41,800 hectares) of planned surfaces because of high prices of seeds. Pea was seeded on 19,700 hectares, by 3,500 hectares more than in 2004. <\/p>\n

In 2004 Moldova harvested about 1.5 million tons of corn, more than 360,000 tons of sunflower, about 1.1 million tons of sugar beet, and about 15,000 tons of pea.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
