The Wine City the Moldovan government wants to built will cost at least 30 million dollars, of which wine companies would cover 90 percent and the government would contribute the rest, Valeriu Mironescu, director-general of the Moldova-Vin Agri-Industrial Agency, told a news conference on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Wine City project, which the cabinet of ministers approved on May 11, calls for construction of 30 buildings comprising markets, tasting rooms, restaurants, wine cellars, bars, and a casino, and they will be enclosed by a stone wall. The complex will be built near the National Institute of Vine and Wine on about eight hectares, and will open by autumn 2006, so that the Wine Holiday be organised in the Wine City.<\/p>\n

According to Mironescu, a special commission will select a company within two months to build the complex. Moldova-Vin intends to create the state-owned company Wine City the next days, and it will administrate and supervise the building works, and will run the complex later.<\/p>\n

"We hope that Wine City would become so important for Moldova as the Eiffel Tour for France," noted Mironescu, who is one of key developers of this project. He hopes that the Wine City would become an entertainment area for tourists and a business centre for wine makers.<\/p>\n

The Moldova-Vin director noted that 15 wineries have expressed interest to open representations in the improvised city until now, while the number of bidders is on a continued rise. Mironescu underlined that enterprises will be able to buy fields soon at an auction held by Moldova-Vin.<\/p>\n
