Mold ITERA Energy and RW-DC Energy Investment will be permitted to import equipment and materials for the construction of power plants in Burlaceni (Cahul raion) and Balti city without paying the value-added tax, the Moldovan Parliament decided today. <\/p>\n

Mr. Pavel Vassiliyev, a Government Representative, said these two projects are being realized in Moldova by the ITERA Group of Russia and RW-DC of Germany. Next two years, they are going to import approximately 200 million euros worth of materials and equipment. If the Parliament refused to exempt the imports of the VAT, the 2 foreign companies would renounce the projects. "Such was their condition", said Vassiliyev.<\/p>\n

Moldova Noastra Alliance faction leader Serafim Urechean voiced surprise over such a condition: "We are Europe’s poorest country, aren’t we? The 50 million euros we are thus going to lose in taxes is an astronomical sum for us. It is very strange that we afford going in for such charitable actions". <\/p>\n

Deputy Speaker Iurie Rosca (Christian Democratic Popular Party) demanded from the Government to submit detailed information about the two [Russian and German] investors by next parliament sitting, as well as full information about the founders of the Mold ITERA Energy and RE-DC Energy Investment namely how they have emerged in Moldova, who selected them, who conducted negotiations to railroad this bill, and what the practical benefit Moldova is going to receive from these investments.<\/p>\n

MP Dmitry Todoroglo stood up resolutely in support of the 2 projects "which will substantially consolidate our energy security. Presently we import up to 80% electricity needs. These two plants are going to satisfy a substantial part of the needs, and may be even ensure some exports. I guess we should accept the investors’ conditions if they are ready to make such a huge investment in Moldova".<\/p>\n
