\"\"Moldova’s leading cement manufacturer, the "Ciment" of Rezina town, earned 19 million lei ($1.52 million) of profit last year, after only 8.12 million lei in 2003. <\/p>\n

Lafarge Group Representative at Moldova Mr. Ovidiu Crisu told a news conference today the enterprise produced 430 thousand tons of cement worth 231.7 thousand lei last year. In 2003, the figures were 261.4 thousand tons and 133 million lei, respectively. Tax payments to the Budget reached almost 29 million lei, and the average month wage grew up to 2,471 lei – over twice higher than the country’s average indicator. <\/p>\n

Since 1999 when Rezina was privatized by the Lafarge Group of France, the owner has invested 132 million lei ($10.5 million) in its development, including 21 million lei last year. In 2005, investment in production development is to be $2 million. <\/p>\n

Mr. Crisu pointed out steadily growing cement consumption in Moldova, namely 200 kilograms per capita in 2004 against 140 kg some five years ago. He is expecting a real construction boom to begin in Moldova very soon when this republic begins building a big new residential community near Chisinau, the Jurjulesti Oil Terminal in southern Moldova (on the Danube River), and a whole network of METRO Cash & Carry centers in various parts of the country. Nonetheless, Rezina will be able to meet the grown demand, and will be even exporting some cement to Ukraine. <\/p>\n

Ovidiu Crisu refrained from answering who supplies electricity to the cement plant, and at which price. Last year, this was Energoexport company, liquidated recently by a governmental decision. Electricity accounts for over 65% of the production expenditures. <\/p>\n

Last year, the enterprise repaid first dividends to its shareholders – 0.37 lei per a 10-lei share. Lafarge Group holds 71.4% shares, Moldova Privatization Department 4.5%, and the rest belongs to investment foundations and individuals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
