Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) foresees to increase the total fruit yield from 400 Th. tones in 2004 to 980 Th. tones in 2020, as part of the State \"\"Program on developing fruit growing until 2020, the annual average growth being of about 45 Th. tones. <\/p>\n

MAFI press officer, Veniamin Balan told REPORTER.MD that this program was elaborated with a view to ameliorating the current situation and developing the field. Its implementation will contribute to the increase of the production volume, improvement of fruits’ quality and competitiveness, optimization of treed areas. <\/p>\n

According to Balan, out of the total surface of fruit tree plantations, the seedy species will occupy by 2010 an area of 58.4 Th. hectares, the stony species – 33 Th. hectares, and the walnut trees – 7 Th. hectares. <\/p>\n

The weight of apple trees is planned to be reduced in the following years from 61.1% (at present) to 54.2%, and the weight of pear trees and quince trees will be increased by 1.2% for each species. The walnut tree areas will be extended 2.5 times,” specified the source. <\/p>\n

Fruit tree plantations’ productivity will reach by 2010 the level of 10.7 tones\/hectare, amounting afterwards to 14.5 tones\/hectare in 2020. <\/p>\n
