Thousands of supporters of the Communist Party in Moldova gathered in Chisinau’s Central Square calling on the pro-European Government to step down and organize early elections. Some Communist deputies, together with the head of the Party, Vladimir Voronin, joined the demonstration.<\/p>\n

Carrying flags with Communist symbols – hammer and sickle – the demonstrators shouted “Government – step down,” “Shame on you” and “Moldova” accusing the current cabinet of incompetence and corruption. Moreover, they announced that their protests will continue until the Government resigns.<\/p>\n

Vladimir Voronin was urging the people to choose Russia and join the Russia-led Customs Union, that is expected to emerge into Eurasian Union as of 2015.<\/p>\n

The Communist Party could not achieve its target of demonstrators that were supposed to gather in the Central Square. It seems that less people than expected showed up at the rally.<\/p>\n

Some sources said that about 8,000 people gathered for this protest, a number that is way lower than the amount of participants at the pro-EU rally organized a few weeks ago, gathering up to 100,000 people at the same place.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
