Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Dmitry Rogozin, will be welcomed with protests on September 2nd when the official is expected to visit Moldova. The Government in Chisinau is urged “to show dignity towards the open intimidations coming from Moscow.”<\/p>\n

The Council of Unity of the National-Liberal Party of Moldova, an extra-parliamentary party that strives for unification with Romania, said the Russian leadership “seeks to foil the Euro-Atlantic future” of the country.<\/p>\n

The Council urges the unification-seeking groups to take action and peacefully protest against Mr. Rogozin’s visit to Chisinau on September 2nd.<\/p>\n

“The Council of Unity finds pointless the visits of some Russian officials, such as Dmitry Rogozin and Patriarch Kirill, who come to our country to put pressure upon and intimidate us to remain on the Russian orbit,” the statement of the Council of Unity reads.<\/p>\n

Dmitry Rogozin is also Russia’s envoy for the Transnistrian conflict. His agenda in Moldova includes a visit to the separatist region, as well, where he is expected to participate at the inauguration of construction works of a new hospital sponsored by Russia.<\/p>\n

“Rogozin is a person who should not come to the Republic of Moldova because in 1992, he fought for the Transnistrian side. Moreover, he said that the Moldovan and Romanian fascists were killed,” said in a comment for Moldova.ORG, Mircea Sula, member of the Action 2012 civil platform that will organize a protest on Monday.<\/p>\n

“Instead of naming him persona non-grata, authorities in Chisinau welcome him with honors. Rogozin and his statements are worrisome and they [the Russians] still believe they are governors of foreign land,” the activist said. <\/p>\n

Russian Patriarch Kirill is also expected to travel to Moldova on September 7-9, where he will meet with some Moldovan officials and participate at the 200th anniversary of the Chisinau Eparchy. Moreover, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church will conduct a religious service at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Chisinau.<\/p>\n

At the end of his program in Chisinau, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill will travel to Moldova’s separatist enclave of Transnistria, namely to Tiraspol. Russian Patriarch’s last visit to Moldova took place in 2011. He was given the “Order of Honor” award at that time.<\/p>\n

The Liberal Party of Moldova is also unsatisfied with the visit of the two Russian officials.<\/p>\n

“Patriarch Kirill’s visit is related to 200 years from the foundation of the Chisinau Eparchy and this means that we accept the [Russian] occupation, because this [the Eparchy] emerged following the occupation,” the head of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said.<\/p>\n

His party-fellow, Valeriu Munteanu, said the Liberal Party wants to see the invitation letter sent to the Russian guests and understand what the purpose of such visits is.<\/p>\n
