Moldova wants to get rid of the soviet passports which are still being held by elderly. The Government announced on Wednesday that new ID cards will be issued free of charge for the soviet passports holders. The entire application process will not require any costs.<\/p>\n

Most of the people bearing a soviet passport are either older than 70, or people with disabilities. A special work team will be established to enforce the regulation. Special-needs persons who cannot move to the documentation office will be provided services at home.<\/p>\n

The statistics have revealed that by July 1, 2013, some 220,000 people were holders of soviet passports. Up until now these passports could be used in the voting process, as well.<\/p>\n

The Government will spend over 27.5 million MDL for the replacement of the personal identification documents.<\/p>\n
