Moldova is likely to initial the Association Agreement with the European Union at Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit that is due to take place in November, as the EU officials have recently voiced. Although a lot has been talked about whether the country has chances to initial any agreements, more than half of citizens did not even hear about the Eastern Partnership Summit.<\/p>\n

In a survey commissioned by IPN and organized by IMAS, about 61% of Moldovans are not aware of this Summit, while only 31% have heard of it. At the same time, the 43% of people believe that Moldova will initial the Association Agreement in November this year, while only 33% expect a positive outcome to happen.<\/p>\n

Some 30% of respondents answered that Moldovan politicians did not do anything specific to enhance the relationship with the European Union. They argue that the main hindrances were the misunderstandings within the ruling coalition, corruption and incompetent politicians. However, over 36% believe that Moldova has made some progress.<\/p>\n

Surprising is the fact that 36% of the population believe Moldova’s foreign policy should be aimed towards the EU, while the same amount of people think that the country’s foreign policy should be oriented towards Russia.  <\/p>\n

The survey was conducted on a sample of 1,143 people with an error margin of + (-) 3% and they show the data collected in May 2013.
