The Republic of Moldova has a partly free press. According to Freedom House, Moldova ranks 117th out of 197 countries.<\/p>\n

The freedom of press in Romania is better than the one in Moldova. The Freedom House report ranks Romania 88th, while Russia is way behind – the 176th.<\/p>\n

The freest press is in Norway, Sweden, Belgium, whereas Uzbekistan, North Korea and Turkmenistan are at the end of the freedom of press ranking.<\/p>\n

According to Freedom House, 63 countries (32%) were rated Free, 70 countries (36%) were rated Partly Free, and 64 countries (32%) were rated Not Free.<\/p>\n

Freedom House notes that the number of countries with a free press has decreased during the past years. The organization shows a huge decline in freedom of press in Mali, a worsening situation in Greece and an enhanced control over the media in Latin America.<\/p>\n

“The trend of overall decline occurred, paradoxically, in a context of increasingly diverse news sources and ever-expanding means of political communication. The growth of these new media has triggered a repressive backlash by authoritarian regimes that have carefully controlled television and other mass media and are now alert to the dangers of unfettered political commentary online,” Freedom House said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
