Communist Party of Moldova and their supporters rallied on Thursday in front of the Parliament. They called on early elections and the resignation of the current leadership after their party ousted the Government in a no-confidence vote on March 5th.<\/p>\n

After half an hour of peaceful demonstrations, the mass of people moved to the President’s Residence where they demanded the head of state to come outside. The building was surrounded by a chain of policemen in an attempt to avert the protesters from getting closer to it.<\/p>\n

The media video reports show how the Communists and their supporters clashed with police, the protesters breaking the chain formed by the police officers. According to the law enforcement bodies, the demonstration was not authorized by the town hall. An investigation is currently ongoing.<\/p>\n

Communists say they will continue their protests in the upcoming weeks.<\/p>\n

President’s spokesperson, Vlad Turcanu said the Presidency does not comment on the organization of the demonstrations.<\/p>\n

“It is a democratic country. Everyone has the right [to protest]. We are not going to comment the way the protests are organized,” Vlad Turcanu said. <\/p>\n
