Russian authorities entered the Amnesty International office in Moscow on Monday for inspections.<\/p>\n<p>Employees of the prosecutor&rsquo;s offices and tax inspectors arrived at the headquarters of the NGO for inspections &bdquo;to check compliance with Russian legistion on NGOs,&rdquo; reporterd Amnesty International in a press release, quoting the the inspectors, as saying.<\/p>\n<p>Public Verdict Foundation, For Human Rights Movement and Agency for Social Information in Russia were also subject to inspection on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Russian Parliament adopted months ago a law which enables certain restrictions and requirements to the NGOs which receive foreign funding.<\/p>\n<p>&bdquo;Amnesty International, along with other NGOs, has repeatedly condemned the new legislation imposing increasing restrictions on NGOs and expressed its fears that the NGO laws would be used to harass and seek closure of those highlighting abuses and critical of the government,&rdquo; Amnesty International said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The organization is further concerned that the recent searches have been conducted in a way to &bdquo;deliberately stigmatise and discredit NGOs in the eyes of the public.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In September 2012, Russia ended their cooperation with the US-funded USAID, while many other organizations that were relying of their assistance had to close their offices and move out. &nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span>Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Russia are subject to unexpected controls and searches.
