Moldova publicly presented its progress in terms of human rights protection and its strategy adopted to tackle the issue. Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Andrei Popov addressed the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland on Monday stating the his country is now ensuring human rights protection among minorities.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that Moldova enacted, as of January 1, the Law Ensuring Equality of Chances, a bill highly requested by the European Commission and which sparked contradictory reactions among the population.<\/p>\n

During his speech, Andrei Popov mentioned that each and every country is entitled to freely exercise its right to development within its internationally recognized borders. He added that “the respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity could by no means justify disrespect for human rights and a sense of impunity for those who systematically abused them.”<\/p>\n

He reiterated the need to find a solution for the conflict in Transnistria with respect for the territorial integrity of Moldova and human rights.<\/p>\n
