More than 500 mayors protested in front of the Moldovan Government building on Friday at noon. The civil servants, who came from the entire country, demanded higher salaries and better distribution of the public funds.<\/p>\n

The protesters complained they earn less than some of their subordinates. Some carried banners on which could be read: “The mayors are being directly elected and deserve respect,” “Without real decentralization there is no real development and Europeanization.”<\/p>\n

None of the ministers or Government officials came out to speak with the protesters. This is the first demonstration of this kind.<\/p>\n
