In November 2012 OSCE Mission in Moldova issued a report "Schools with teaching in Latin script in Transnistria and managed by Moldova"<\/a>. It has a number of recommendations to solve some of the problems faced by institutions with teaching in Latin script in the Transnistrian region. According to OSCE representatives, the document will be made public shortly. Moldova.ORG got hold of it and spoke with several representatives of these schools about the recommendations made by the OSCE.<\/p>\n

Ion Iovcev, Director of High School "Lucian Blaga" from Tiraspol is displeased with the fact that one of the recommendations of the report provides schools to obtain authorization from unrecognized Tiraspol administration: "Such temporary but stable solutions will include registration and licensing of Moldovan schools by the de facto Transnistrian administration as "non-state institutions of general education" (private schools) without their certification and accreditation"(6.2.).<\/p>\n

"We are very upset by these recommendations. We are accredited by the Ministry of Education in Chisinau, we teach following its curricula. Our diplomas are recognized worldwide. If schools teaching in Latin script would “get license" from the illegal authorities in Tiraspol, the situation would become even more complicated. Problems will not be solved, but more problems will appear. I don’t understand why we should get authorization from some unrecognized authority. The OSCE report seems like to be written in Moscow, not in Vienna", Ion Iovcev says.<\/p>\n

Another recommendation made by the OSCE is to make some modifications in the textbooks. "As the next step after independent curriculum analysis, Moldovan authorities the Transnistrian de facto administration should also resume their efforts on joint analysis of textbooks. The objective of curricula and textbooks analysis must be to develop joint recommendations for the education process, textbooks and other teaching materials on controversial issues of some subjects, such as geography and history"(6.4.).<\/p>\n

"It’s an aberration. We study from the textbooks developed by the Ministry of Education, our students take exams according to the curricula developed in Chisinau. I don’t understand what changes could be made in textbooks of history and geography. We don’t want and we will not admit our textbooks to be modified with the involvement of unrecognized Tiraspol administration. We would like to study as other children in Moldova", said Eleonora Cercavschi, the Director of High School" Stefan cel Mare" from Grigoriopol.
