Moldovan Prosecutor Valeriu Zubco is being accused of having reportedly shot dead a man while hunting in the woods on December 23, 2012. The allegation was made public in a press conference on Sunday by Sergiu Mocanu, the head of the Popular Movement “Antimafie.”<\/p>\n

Sergiu Mocanu said the crime is known among the high-level officials of the country, but it is being kept secret.<\/p>\n

“Zubco wanted to confess but Plahotniuc ordered otherwise,” Mr. Mocanu said.<\/p>\n

Vlad Plahotniuc is the Prime-Vice-President of the Parliament. He is also recognised as one of the richest men in Moldova, owning several state enterprises and media outlets.<\/p>\n

Sergiu Mocanu stated that the victim is Sorin Paciu, a 35-year-old man from Chisinau, who was the owner of a quarry in Balatina village.<\/p>\n

Premier Vlad Filat has learnt about the incident from the press, according to his spokesperson, Igor Volnitschi. He said that the Prime Minister beseeched the Ministry of Internal Affairs to investigate the case. However, the Prosecutor’s General Office rejected the police’s involvement.<\/p>\n

According to Ion Bodrug, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, the police learnt about the case after the Prosecutor’s Office in Falesti County initiated the investigation.<\/p>\n

“We regret that the Prosecutor’s Office did not desire police involvement. We have been told: ‘do not get involved; we are managing the investigation by ourselves; we do not need any help’,” Ion Bodrug said.<\/p>\n

In a press release the Prosecutor’s Office denied most of the information presented by Sergiu Mocanu. They said that a 34-year-old man was injured during an authorized hunting party and he died two days later at the hospital. Moreover, the same institution mentioned another location of the incident, without making public the name of the casualty and the person suspicious of killing the victim.
