The Republic of Moldova ranks 111th in the global human development rank, a report issued on Friday by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has revealed.<\/p>\n

Moldova is 56 positions lower than the European Union member states in terms of development. The main constrains that cumber the convergence of Moldova with the European member states are related to the health status of the population, poor quality of education and low incomes per individual.<\/p>\n

“One of the key reasons explaining the high level of income inequality and vulnerability to poverty in Moldova is the economic growth pattern,” the National Human Development Report 2012 showed. “From 2000 to 2011 economic growth in Moldova has been relatively strong, with GDP growing on average by 5.05 percent annually.”<\/p>\n

The UNDP says that income inequality and high poverty rates risk turning into permanent features of the Moldovan model of development.<\/p>\n

The study revealed that life expectancy rate is stuck to 69.3 years, being one the lowest in Europe, but close to the countries of the Western Balkans and the Eastern Partnership. The same report shows that men in Moldova live eight year less than women.<\/p>\n

Moreover, National Human Development Report revealed that “the quality of the education system does not meet the needs of a competitive economy, as proved by the World Economic Forum in 2012, by being granted a score of only 3.2 out of a maximum of 7, and showing no progress since 2008.”<\/p>\n

"It is highly recommended, in particular to the Government of Moldova not to rely on intuition and at least to develop an aide-memoire outlining the most likely scenarios to occur at the European stage in the medium term, how the Moldovan government would react to each of these and what capabilities need to be built and\/or strengthened now so that no one is caught by surprise and no institution is overwhelmed by an event everyone should have expected,” the National Human Development Report 2012 said. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
