Over 810,000 citizenships have been granted by the European Union member states in 2010. The highest number of European citizenships was offered by Great Britain – 195,000, followed by France with 143,000, Spain – 124,000 and Germany granting 105,000 citizenships, according to a news release of Eurostat. The number increased by 4 percent in 2010 compared to the year before.<\/p>\n

The report showed that most of the applicants came from Africa (29%), Asia (23%), non-EU European countries (19%) and others.<\/p>\n

Moroccans, Turks, Ecuadorians and Indians are the most popular nationalities to have got a citizenship of an EU member state.<\/p>\n

“In 2010, the largest groups that acquired citizenship of a EU27 Member State were citizens of Morocco (67,000 persons), Turkey (49,900), Ecuador (45,200), India (34,700) and Colombia (27,500),” the information provided by Eurostat shows.<\/p>\n

According to the same data, some EU countries granted citizenships to people originating from only one state. Therefore, the highest concentration was in Hungary with 65% of Romanian applicants and Greece with the same rate of applicants from Albania.<\/p>\n

In 2010, Romania itself has granted more than 35,000 citizenships to the people from Moldova. The procedure continues since the number of Romanian-citizenship seekers from Moldova increases year by year. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
