He has recently posted an article about this on his personal <a href=\"http:\/\/vitalie.marinuta.md\/?p=288\">blog<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&ldquo;I believe that Republic of Moldova doesn&rsquo;t need compulsory military and civilian service. The government should take maximum efforts to transform Armed Forces in professional ones. However, compulsory military service should be maintained for periods of crisis and war&rdquo;, the minister writes on his blog.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">According to him, Republic of Moldova should follow the example of countries that abandoned conscription. &ldquo;Today, after 21 years, both the vision of Moldovan leadership and the population on conscription have changed. Because of objective and subjective reasons, Republic of Moldova could not create the necessary conditions for the military and civilian service to become a sacred obligation of every citizen (&hellip;). Currently, these types of services, especially the military service are mostly just for those in need. I believe that based on the international practice, the geopolitical environment and the socio-political situation created, the Republic of Moldova should abandon the conscription during the period of peace and to keep this provision in the Constitution only for exceptional cases. It should be noted that most countries in the world abandoned conscription (&hellip;). Today conscription is preserved in most countries in Africa and Asia&rdquo;, the minister explains.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">According to Marinuta, there is no eminent external military threat for our country that would justify conscription of all young people aged 18-27 years old. &ldquo;The current situation in South East Europe is peaceful. Moldova&rsquo;s neighbors, Romania and Ukraine, are not considered and they do not consider us potential aggressors&rdquo;, the minister writes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">However, the minister mentions that the existence of a breakaway region and the presence of foreign military forces on the territory of the country involve maintaining military forces as a deterrent to hostile actions. &ldquo;National military force should be well trained and maintained. Is it necessary to enlist every man for the period of a year? I believe that no. Better to develop a voluntary force of professional serviceman, who would be able to serve the interests of the Republic of Moldova both at home and abroad.
