The events of 2011 have shaped the world in a significant way. Most of them have a strong impact today. Here is a list of 10 most important world events.<\/p>\n

1. Arab Spring<\/strong>
\nAn uprising started in North Africa and Middle East. The people rallied against their government and demanded the resignation of their leaders. In most of the countries the people clashed with riot police and fought among themselves. Casualties were reported. Some revolutions brought changes within their countries.<\/p>\n

\n2. Bin Laden’s Death<\/strong>
\nThe most wanted man of the world was killed. In May 2011, Osama Bin Laden was shot by the US forces in Pakistan. The terrorist is the author of the 9\/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.<\/p>\n

\n3. Deadly earthquake and tsunami in Japan<\/strong>
\nThe shakiest event was the 8.9 magnitude earthquake which rattled Japan. Thousands of people died as a result of a tsunami which destroyed their homes. Many others were evacuated after a nuclear power plant was damaged and the radioactivity spread into the air.<\/p>\n

\n4. Strong earthquake in Turkey<\/strong>
\nAt least 272 people died and more than 1,300 injured after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake shook Eastern Turkey. Tens of thousands fled to the streets after their homes were severely damaged.<\/p>\n

\n5. Bombing at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport<\/strong>
\nA terrorist attack on Russia’s Domodedovo Airport left at least 37 dead and other 180 injured. The explosion was caused by a suicide bomber.<\/p>\n

\n6. Norway killings<\/strong>
\nOne of the most peaceful countries in the world was horrified to experience a dramatic shooting. A right-wing extremist shot dead 85 teenagers in Norway.<\/p>\n

\n7. Occupy Movement<\/strong>
\nAmid harsh economic recession, thousands of people from the United States of America took to the streets of the large cities of the country to protest against the economic difficulties they have to go through. The first action took place in New York City Park near Wall Street. The movement spread later on throughout the world.<\/p>\n

\n8. Kim Jong-il’s death<\/strong>
\nNorth Korea’s long-service president died of heart attack at the age of 69. He was succeeded by his son Kim Jong-un. Thousands of people participated at their former president’s funerals. The alternation in power determined the international community to be very prudent with the new leader’s domestic and foreign policy.<\/p>\n

\n9. End of war in Iraq<\/strong>
\nThe United States announced the withdrawal of their troops and the end of the war in Iraq. After almost nine years of fighting, some 4,500 American soldiers died and over 30,000 were injured. The whole war cost the USA more than $700 billion.<\/p>\n

\n10. Steve Jobs died<\/strong>
\nApple founder Steve Jobs died at the age of 56. He is the creator of the iPhone, the device which inspired the world’s most popular mobile devices.<\/p>\n
