Although the UN statistics show a steady increase of the world population, Moldova is dealing with a decrease in the number of inhabitants. The international statistics show that in 100 years from now, over 1.5 million people might live in Moldova, compared to current 3.5 million inhabitants.<\/p>\n

The root cause of the issue is the low birth rate. Many teenagers delay the moment of building up their own family or having kids. As a result, Moldova deals with a high rate of aged people. Another big issue is the high death rate, including infantile death.<\/p>\n

“It is important the state to acknowledge these quite dangerous developments for the demographic future of our country and to develop attractive policies for the young families encouraging the child birth,” Boris Galca, Representative of the UN Population Fund said.<\/p>\n

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon issued a statement today on the World Population Day. According to him, at the international level the population is dealing with multiple crises, such as food, fuel and financial resources. He underlines how important is the reproductive health for today’s generation.<\/p>\n

“Reproductive health is an indispensable part of the sustainable development equation. Women and young people who are in good health, and who have the power and means to make their own decisions about how many children to have — and when to have them — are better able to contribute to the development of their societies,” UN Secretary-General said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
