After four years and three months of having been banned from entering Russia, the journalist Natalia Morari was finally let to cross the border.<\/p>\n

“Dmitry Medvedev has promised to solve this issue. A week ago, Evghenia Albat called to let me know that she was contacted by Natalia Timacova. She is the spokeswoman of the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev who told her that we can buy a ticket to flight to Russia at any time. We crossed the border quite easily; I cried, we all cried, but I am very happy,” said Natalia Morari in a skype interview for Moldova’s Publika TV.<\/p>\n

Natalia Morari, 28, is an anchor of a popular talk-show from Publika TV where she works since June 2011. Her last show on TV was broadcast on March 23, 2012 when she talked about the newly elected President of Moldova.<\/p>\n

Evghenia Albat, the senior-editor of “The New Times,” the Russian newspaper Ms. Morari worked for, talked with the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in February 2012 during a conference with the journalists, to withdraw the ban of Natalia Morari.<\/p>\n

“Medvedev agreed that Natalia Morari, of course, is not a threat for Russian Federation and has promised that he will try to solve this issue. And so it was,” said Ms. Albat.<\/p>\n

Natalia Morari has graduated in 2007 from Lomonosov State University of Moscow. After graduation she was the spokeswoman of “The Other Russia” Political Coalition. She started her journalistic career as special correspondent for “The New Times” Magazine from Moscow in February 2007. She worked there until August 2009. Within her stories she has been very critical with the ruling administration of Russian Federation. One of her stories concerned alleged money laundering which involved Raiffeisen Bank of Austria and the Russian Government.<\/p>\n

After returning from a work-related trip from Israel in December 2007, Ms. Morari was pulled aside at Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport. Although her documents were alright, she was barred from entering the country. She was told that she poses a threat to the national security.<\/p>\n

“Ms. Morar had written extensively about alleged corruption in Russia’s security services, some of which she said had been leaking incriminating information about their rivals in a power struggle between the groups. This fall, she wrote about a corruption investigation into kickback and extortion allegations against some top officials of the FSB federal security service, the successor agency to the KGB,” the Wall Street Journal wrote at that time.<\/p>\n

After she was banned to enter the country, she returned to Moldova, where she holds citizenship. Here she started to work on some projects; one of them was becoming a columnist for Radio Free Europe\/Radio Liberty’s office from Chisinau. The most important project was joining the team of Publika TV, the place where she learnt Romanian language, later becoming an anchor.<\/p>\n

Her life in Moldova wasn’t that honeyed. During the massive anti-governmental riots of April 2009, Natalia Morari was among the supporters of the demonstration. She was banned to leave Moldova for a short period at that time because of her involvement in the case. On April 7, 2009, thousands of people, mainly teenagers took to the streets of Moldova’s capital of Chisinau to rally against the government and chant anti-communist messages. The demonstrators organized themselves on the social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Odnoklassniki and blogs.<\/p>\n

Ms. Morari tried to re-enter Russia in 2008 after she having married one of her colleagues from “The New Times.” Her recent attempt to cross the border failed although she thought that getting married to a Russian citizen would help her.<\/p>\n

After she entered Russia on Monday again, Natalia Morari visited her colleagues from “The New Times” where she was warmly welcomed.<\/p>\n

“I have had a hard time there. I feel like I am a foreigner among my beloved ones there,” said the journalist at a friendly meeting with her Russian fellows, referring to her life in Moldova.<\/p>\n

She concluded on an optimistic tone, wishing for a better approach between Moldova and Russia.<\/p>\n

“Who knows, maybe one day my husband will become the President of Russia and I will become the President of Moldova, and then we will finally establish a better approach between these two countries,” said Ms. Morari in the newsroom of “The New Times.”<\/p>\n

According to a Facebook post of the journalist, she will return to Moldova.<\/p>\n

“Four years and three months passed. Yes, I am in Moscow. Thank you all those who were near me all these years. For those who are asking themselves: I will not remain in Russia, Moldova rules,” said Natalia Morari in a post on Facebook on Monday.<\/p>\n\n
