We speak about Crematory &quot;Cenusa&quot; (&quot;Ashes&quot;).<\/p>\n<p>The dark building is attractive for its eclectic architecture with elements of Byzantine, Syrian and Egyptian inspiration, in style of the monument of Cantacuzino in the Bellu cemetery, but also by the legends associated with this monument.<\/p>\n<p>The construction of the monument began in 1925, according to the project of architect Duiliu Marcu.<\/p>\n<p>Crematory &quot;Cenusa&quot; is one of the few monuments in Bucharest which is in a close connection with the recent history of Romania. Inaugurated in 1928, the first person incinerated here was Profira Fieraru, a woman died at the age of 40 years. The opening of the crematory represented, between Church and State, a subject of controversy, at the time being doubted the legitimacy of the combustion of dead people from the religious canons point of view. It is said that in the crematory &quot;Cenusa&quot; would have been cremated the General Antonescu, many legionaries of the interwar period and Anna Pauker, in the Communist period. In the revolution of 1989, the 43 people killed in Timi\u015foara were brought to the crematory &quot;Cenusa&quot;, incinerated and their ashes were scattered.<\/p>\n<p>But it is said that the place where today is located the crematory has a history quite rich since the times of Vlad the Impaler, when underground tunnels were constructed with a quite advanced offshoot, which has been enlarged over the years and by other rulers (Cantacuzino, Ferdinand I).<\/p>\n<p>Crematory &quot;Cenusa&quot; is located in the Park of Youth, in Bucharest, and was declared a historically monument of A category, according to an order of the Ministry of Culture.
