A church, of course, but not a simple one, but an old and wooden one.<\/p>\n<p>This is the description of the wooden church from Pojogeni, town Dealul Ocii in Gorj County, Romania.<\/p>\n<p>The church is uncommon, because it has no towers at all, which is a part of the majority of Orthodox churches and beyond. It is built in an architectural style accordingly to the region of Oltenia, which is distinguished by a quite old porch built on columns with carved heads and an entrance hall. The paintings of the iconostasis are unique in the whole region of Oltenia.<\/p>\n<p>Once you pass inside the church visitor&#8217;s eyes are drawn like a magnet by the inscription at the entrance, which says: &quot;This Holy place of God was built in the days of enlightened ruler Gheorghie Anagiarlu and our father the Bishop Nektarios. 7305&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>The quote refers to the year of construction 7305 since World Making that is 1796-1797 AD, in the years when the founder of the church, Bishop Nektarios became Metropolitan of Wallachia.<\/p>\n<p>The Church is built entirely of wood, and style of construction and the method of arrangement of the joists give a distinctive strength to construction.<\/p>\n<p>Old formal elements that indicate the age of the church are proportions, the technique of combining the joists, the windows with frames of one wood and the method of the portal arrangement.
