By Diana Ungureanu\/ Chisinau \/ Moldova.ORG\/ — Those that wish to see the clearest lake in the world, I invite them on the island of New Zealand, namely its South Island, because there was discovered a Lake, whose clarity is close to that of distilled water.<\/p>\n

After 6 visits, scientists have concluded that the horizontal visibility in water from Blue Lake, located in the Nelson Lakes National Park, varies between 70 and 80 meters.<\/p>\n

The hydrologist Rob Merrilees, from the Institute of Water and Atmosphere Research, examined the water clarity in Blue Lake, which he compared with that of Nelson Lakes National Park, whose optical clarity reach up to 63 meters. The specialist also characterized the water here as being blue-purple, a hue that only the natural lakes with very clear water have.<\/p>\n

The theoretical clarity and visibility of distilled water is about 80 meters, measured with special equipment. In this context, experts point out that the clarity of the water from the Blue Lake is around the figure of 70-80 meters, which allows us to conclude that the water of this lake is very close to perfect purity, at least from the optical point of view.
\nBlue Lake is permanently fed by a nearby glacial lake, Lake Constance. Experts stressed that the purity of the lake is mainly due to the natural dam between the two lakes, which has a role of filter that purifies water.<\/p>\n

The waters of this Lake are considered sacred for the native population, and specialists analyze every year the purity of the lake to remove artificial aspects which could influence its clarity (influence of tourists or of locals), so washing laundry and dishes in the lake is strictly prohibited.<\/p>\n

The lake water temperature does not exceed 5-8 degrees Celsius, this due to the source of provisioning of the lake, which is located at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level.<\/p>\n
