Three 14.700 years old skulls, discovered at Gough&#8217;s Cave, Somerset, were so meticulously finished, that their use as vessel to keep liquid or from which to drink seems to be the only plausible explanation; it was the conclusion of the experts of the Natural History Museum in London. They argue that special cups-skulls probably were used in rituals.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I think making cups of skulls referred to a ritual. If they had wanted to crush the skull just to extract the brains and to eat them, they could obtain this result much easier. If they had only wanted to feed, the skull would have been very fragmented. But in these cases it is observed that they were trying to keep as much of the entire structure of the skull. Traces of the interior show that they have cleaned the skulls by removing the soft tissues&quot;, commented Dr. Silvia Bello, paleontologist and author of the study about the potential usefulness of these skulls.<\/p>\n<p>Found skulls were very well crafted, polished and cut to be just simple historical human wreckage. British researcher added that &quot;the signs made of cuts and bruises indicate how the skulls were cleaned of any tissue. Then skulls were modified by removing facial bones and the skull base. Finally, these groin-heads were retouched meticulously in order to smooth the sharp edges.
