By Diana Ungureanu\/ Chisinau \/ Moldova.ORG\/ — The history and folklore of Romanian people have a lot of legends and stories that tell about the nation origin and the beauty of the lands. One of these legends brings on the Land of Fagaras, from Brasov County, Romania.<\/p>\n

Here we find some mysterious soil mounds of a height of 30 meters, whose origin is “foggy” even for specialists.
\nWhy would these mounds be so mysterious? It is curious that these huge ground anthills are placed in two rows perfectly parallel, three in one row and four in the second – in the total 7 “pyramids”.<\/p>\n

The locals say out and loud that these ground mounds’ formation due to giants, who lived many years ago on this territory. The legend says that this land was ruled by a princess, whose name was Sona. One day, her kingdom was attacked by some giants came from Fagaras Mountains, went through the Olt River’s water and reaching this place, shook the mud from their feet and the threw away ground created these mounds.<\/p>\n

Some historians assert that these mounds are nothing more than tombs of Celtic cheftains, who arrived in Transylvania before the Dacians. The population of those times used to bury their chiefs in large mounds of ground with their jewels and precious objects, but also used to make more such graves to discourage the thieves and evildoers. <\/p>\n

Finally, what of the versions is the truth, no one dares to find. But until the mystery will be elucidated, the Pyramids of Sona can be a perfect destination for a relaxing weekend. <\/p>\n

Around the mounds there is a perfect space for camping. You can arrange the tent even between two rows of mounds.<\/p>\n

The silence in the land of pyramids can be disturbed only by the chirping birds and the voice of sheep that graze on the other bank of Olt.<\/p>\n

The distance from Chisinau to the Pyramids of Sona is 482 km.
