When it is disclosed the history of the fortress, it surprises and fascinates you. Let’s know it. <\/p>\n

The Rasnov Fortress is an old peasant fortress from Rasnov city, Brasov. Yes, peasant, because it was built by the fortress residents who were generally peasants, and it was built to defend the Tatar attacks. Looking at the grandeur of the fortress, you already imagine proeminent architects behind the designing of it, but here is that simple peasants can build fortresses that remain over the centuries to impress viewers.<\/p>\n

Built in XIII-XIV centuries, it is one of the best preserved fortresses in Transylvania. The first documentary mention dates since 1335, when, after a Tatar invasion in the Barsa Country, there was ravaged all the country, except the city from the Tampa hill, from Brasov and Rasnov fortress, its strong walls resisting the attack, saving the life of the refugees within its walls.<\/p>\n

The citadel has a simple architectural style, close to the construction of simple houses. The wall height is 5 meters and the southern wall has the largest width of 1.5 meters. The walls are lined from south, west and north with steep slopes of about 150 meters, which in the past were very difficult to climb for the invaders, but today they enhance the beauty of the fortress.<\/p>\n

Inside the citadel there can be seen the ruins of 30 houses, where people were sheltered. The inner courtyard of the fortress is crossed by narrow stone paths that meander through the houses with tiles roofs. <\/p>\n

The fortress “hosted” in 1600 the troops of Mihai the Brave and his wife Lady Stanca, after the defeat from Miraslau.
\nInside the citadel, tourists can visit the museum of feudal art where are showcased armors, weapons, galleries, antique furniture, century specific clothes, and also a yoke for transporting of the prisoners and a torture mask. These are impressions about the Rasnov citadel, now you have to do your own impressions of visiting the fortress.<\/p>\n

The distance from Chisinau to Rasnov is 421 km.

The Rasnov Fortress is an old peasant fortress from Rasnov city, Brasov. Yes, peasant, because it was built by the fortress residents who were generally peasants, and it was built to defend the Tatar attacks.
