By Diana Ungreanu\/ Chisinau \/ Moldova.ORG\/ — There exists an underground land of a special beauty. Being considered one of the three most beautiful caves in Europe, the cave Altar Stone from the Bihor Mountain is now, and probably will remain so, at least for a time, closed for tourists.<\/p>\n

The cave was discovered in 1984, by a student, Daniel Carlugea, during a camp organization.
\nThe entrance in the cave is a narrow corridor of 3–4 meters. After this, you enter in a huge hall of a football field sizes, with a great acoustics. Then you enter in so white gallery that the first explorers had to cross it without their shoes, only in socks.<\/p>\n

The cave has four large galleries: “The Palace Gallery”, “The Paradise”, “Geode” and “Bears Altar”.
\n“The Palace” is the first of the galleries, is a zone with rare formations, large calcite flows and high domes. This gallery has the form of a huge underground Gothic cathedral, with columns of 15-20 meters height. <\/p>\n

The “Paradise” gallery opens with generous spaces, supported by high columns, embellished by deposits of diaphanous needles, unique in Romania and at the end of the gallery runs a river of “moon milk” – an unreal white liquid that has the origins in a crack of limestone.<\/p>\n

The next gallery, “Geode”, is a real fairytale land. It is a land with extramineralized water, transformed into a layer of perfect calcite crystals, covered with a motionless glass of water. The beauty and uniqueness of this phenomenon is an opportunity of meditation about the perfection of the nature.<\/p>\n

The last gallery is “Bears Altar”. In this gallery can be seen a lot of skulls of cave bears that lived there during the glacial period. <\/p>\n

The caves are designed for the public, but there are allowed access only for specialists and speleologists.<\/p>\n

The distance from Chisinau to Altar Stone Cave is 710 km.
