By Diana Ungureanu\/ Chisinau \/ Moldova.ORG\/ — We use to go abroad to see historic art monuments, to give a lot of money for a trip, but the local places of interests continue to be deteriorated and destroyed. This is the case of the most historical monuments from Moldova, but in this article I want to speak about an especially beautiful and valuable one, located in Hancesti – the Palace of Manuc-Bei.<\/p>\n

Built in 1891 by the famous architect Bernardazzi for an Armenian of origin Turkish diplomat and Russian spy – Manuc Bei, the palace today is a part of the historical complex Manuc-Estates, which includes a haunting palace, several libraries and houses for functionaries.<\/p>\n

The Palace is located in the south of the town and is the only building which can be assigned with the name of “palace”, in the luxury where the owner didn’t get to live in, passing away before the palace was finished.
\nThe architecture of the building was made in a French classicism with broad goals of the windows and of the balconies bordered with arcades.<\/p>\n

In the times of the Manuc-Bei’s successor, the palace delighted with its luxury. The fountains and a small lake in the palace courtyard received a lot of admiration, which unfortunately haven’t survived in time. The same fate had also the beautiful glass galleries that connected the adjacent buildings with the palace.<\/p>\n

After the Second World War, the construction was rebuilt in a hurry for the College of Constructions. After an earthquake, in 1986, the building was declared damaged and was closed and in 1993 it was awarded with the title of Historical Monument. Since then, the palace is derelict.<\/p>\n

In 2006 it was organized a marathon to raise the funds for the reconstruction, but there were gathered only the amount needed to design the reconstruction. According to a preventive calculation for the reconstruction of the palace, it needs about 100 million lei, money that the municipality doesn’t have. The District Council is seeking for external resources of sponsorship for reconstruction.<\/p>\n

But until then, we have to admire the degradation of so few monuments from our country.
