The stately building awakes in you awe, admiration and a little fear. It is an amazing monument of history, every pebble from this wall having its untied myth, a story to confess. Let’s go together in a virtual journey on the castle corridors.<\/p>\n

Firstly, you have to know that the Hunyadi castle, named also the Castle of Corvinus, was built on the place of Roman camps, which was given by King Sigismund I of Luxembourg to Voicu, Iancu de Hunedoara (hence the castle’s name – Hunyadi). The fifteenth century starts with the expanding and modernizing of the castle, in the times of Iancu de Hunedoara. Then the castle came in the possession of Matthias Corvinus, his son, who built a new wing of castle.
\nThe access to the castle is on a wooden bridge supported on four pillars, above the stream Zlasti. Once entered in the castle, the stones, such living witnesses, begin to retell legends and stories.<\/p>\n

The first myth is related to the first owners of the castle. It is said that Iancu de Hunedoara was the illegitimate son of King Sigismund I of Luxembourg and a beautiful lady from Hateg Land. Then the king found for her a young, worthy and brave husband named Voicu, giving them the castle and a royal ring, as a sign to be recognized at the royal court.<\/p>\n

The legend says that during a trip of Voicu’s family, the ring was left on a table and a raven attracted by the ring brightness tried to steal it, but little Iancu, who was only a child, took the bow and arrow and killed the raven, thus keeping the ring. This legend is an explication to the origin of the name of Corvin dynasty (Eng. “raven”= Rom. “corb”).<\/p>\n

In the courtyard of the castle can be seen a fountain, which has its own history. It is said that it was dug by three Turkish prisoners whom were been promised to be free if they gave water. They had been digging for 15 years a well of a depth of 28 m, but in the meantime Iancu died and his wife didn’t want to release his desire. She ordered to kill them.<\/p>\n

As a last wish, the Turks asked to make an inscription: “You have water, but you have not a heart”. In fact, there is an inscription, but it was deciphered from old Arabic as: “One who wrote it is Hassan, a prisoner at giaours, in the city near the church”.<\/p>\n

The castle full of mysteries and myths is representative for the Medieval European Gothic Art. You have only to make a real journey and to visit this castle, to make real impressions on that we created you virtually.<\/p>\n
