By Diana Ungureanu\/ Chisinau \/ Moldova.ORG\/ — The forests are the wealth of Moldova. One of the oldest and valuable floodplain forests in Europe is in our country, in the Middle Prut meadow. <\/p>\n

The reservation “Royal Forest”, a national treasure, covers an area of 6039 ha, 3054 ha of this area are forests. The reservation was established in 1993 and has the purpose to protect vegetation and fauna of floodplain forests.<\/p>\n

The reservation has 120 ha of oaks, many of the secular oaks being older than 300-400 years that is truly a treasure. <\/p>\n

The diversity of the reservation “Royal Forest” is determined by some things of a major importance, such as:
\n•\tthe Coralier Belt, with an unique value in Europe;
\n•\tthe gorge Duruitoarea – Varatec, with its picturesque waterfalls and caves;
\n•\tthe Butesti Keys – relics of prehistoric settlements;
\n•\tthe reef “Great Rock” – the southernmost reef of the Prut toltre string;
\n•\t“The Hundred Knolls” – with the 3500 enigma mounds;
\n•\tthe relict lake “In the Front” – an oasis of secular trees, which reach 35-40 m;
\n•\t“The Herons Land” – a colony of over 1000 specimens of lake birds, which nest in oaks.<\/p>\n

The Bison – the symbol of Moldova – existed on our country 300 years ago, but in the twentieth century it disappeared. It was returned in the country in 2005, as a prezent from Polish state, and lives on the territory of the “Royal Forest”. <\/p>\n

Here, for a male and two females, was built a 32 ha stable. The “Bison’s” can be visited, being on 3 km from the village Royal Mill. <\/p>\n

The oasis of silence, peace and freshness is located at a distance of 190 km from Chisinau.
