Chi\u015fin\u0103u \/ Moldova.ORG \/ — Solemnly celebrated since 1989, the Moldovan national holiday "National Language", a public holiday in ex-soviet Moldova, has become one of the most important celebrations dating back to the Movement for the Independence, for which all of Moldovan citizens have raised patriotic feelings and pride. On the occasion of this celebration, the Department of Abroad Romanians sent a congratulatory message to all Romanians who celebrate today their mother language. <\/p>\n

"In the spirit of mutual respect to national identity, the Romanian language is today one of the 23 official EU languages, but its spirit can cross borders and become stronger especially eastwards of the Prut.<\/p>\n

We have a duty to honor our language that we speak, no matter where we are because we keep our culture through language, traditions, history and faith. Therefore, I eager that Romanians abroad to join their brethren in Bessarabia (Republic of Moldova) in this day of historical significance in celebrating the Romanian identity and language.
\nI hope that on 31st of August there will be a national celebration for all Romanians with the opportunity to strengthen the ties with the motherland spiritual awareness and appreciation of Romanian identity in the country and abroad, «following the statement sent by the Secretary of State Diaspora, Eugen Tomac.<\/p>\n

INFORMATION: On August 27, 1989, the Popular Front of Moldova organized a mass demonstration in Chi\u015fin\u0103u, that became known as the Great National Assembly, which pressured the authorities of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic to adopt a language law on August 31, 1989 that proclaimed the Moldovan language written in the Latin script to be the state language of the MSSR. Its identity with the Romanian language was also established. On June 23, 1990 Moldovan Parliament establishe the day of August 31 as a National Language Day.
