It was taken as she fled the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 when a hijacked plane hit the north tower where the woman worked.<\/p>\n

Since that time Mrs. Marcy had lost everything in her life (kids, job) including her own consciousness and peace. Marcy was unable to pay her bills or look after her children. She became addicted to crack. <\/p>\n

Her daughter Noelle went away to live with her father, and Child Protection officers arrived at her home to assess the living conditions of her son Zay-den.<\/p>\n

But Osama bin Laden’s death helped change all that, said the former Bank of America worker from Bayonne, NJ, Marcy Borders.<\/p>\n

Terrorist’s death finally kicked away the demons of 9\/11 from ex bank worker.<\/p>\n

That day, the 11th of September 2001 she panicked, ignored a boss’ order to stay at her desk and fled out to the street. She was paralyzed by what she saw.<\/p>\n

"There were wounded and the injured everywhere. I saw people with things sticking out of them, covered head to toe in blood”, she said.<\/p>\n

But then the north tower collapsed. "I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face. The world went silent," she said. <\/p>\n

“It was like my soul was knocked down with those towers,” she said.<\/p>\n

“After September 11th I lost about a third of my weight in six months…I drank a lot and never went out. It haunted me every day…<\/p>\n

I was so paranoid that if I heard a car backfire, I would scream in the middle of the street”.<\/p>\n

After that terrorist act battled severe depression, became addicted to crack and saw her two children taken from her in the 10 years since a photographer snapped this iconic image of her.<\/p>\n

“My life became a garbage can, I was taking pills, crack, everything and anything I could get my hands on… Alcohol would make me numb, and the more I drank the more numb I became, and it helped me forget being trapped in the tower and looking at that photograph…<\/p>\n

I started smoking crack cocaine, because I didn’t want to live… My life spiraled out of control. I didn’t do a day’s work in nearly 10 years, and by 2011 I was a complete mess.<\/p>\n

Every time I saw an aircraft, I panicked. If I saw a man on a building, I was convinced he was going to shoot me”, says Mrs. Borders.<\/p>\n

"I used to lose sleep over him, have bad dreams about bin Laden bombing my house, but now I have peace of mind.<\/p>\n

Borders checked herself into rehab on April 23. And eight days later was sitting in a recreation room when residents started saying, "They got bin Laden!"<\/p>\n

"The last 40 days have been the best since Sept. 11," she said. "We’ve got our family back. The kids have got their mom back."<\/p>\n

Now she’s moved back with her partner, Donald Edwards, and has regained custody of her 18-year- old daughter, Noelle, and 3-year-old son, Zay-den. So Bin Laden’s death gave her the second chance.
