\nThe Moldovan Ministry of Informational Technologies and Telecommunications has introduced new prices on biometrical passports.<\/p>\n

Carmena Lupei of the Ministry told your Infotag correspondent that the making of a new passport within a regular timing of one month will now cost 850 lei against the previous rate of 1,250 lei. If an applicant wants his passport to be ready within 10 days, he will have to pay 1,530 lei, within 5 days – 1,700 lei, within 8 hours – 2,500 lei, and within 4 hours – 2,980 lei.<\/p>\n

The spokeswoman said the European Commission has not yet provided the promised 2 million euros for the purchasing of up-to-date equipment for the manufacturing and reading of biometrical passports, and "as soon as we receive the money, we will set a precise date of holding a tender for the right to supply corresponding equipment to Moldova. This will substantially shorten the passport preparation timing".<\/p>\n

As Infotag has already reported, from January 1, 2011 Moldova issues only biometrical passports. This is one of chief conditions for simplifying the visa regime with the European Union. Traditional, non-biometrical passports issued before this date shall remain valid until their expiry dates.<\/p>\n

Angela Chicu of the state-run Registru center for informational resources says that in the first 6 days of 2011 citizens of Moldova had submitted nearly 4 thousand applications for new biometrical passports.<\/p>\n

These passports are issued at 49-of-56 Registru offices across the republic. The new passports have a validity of 7 years, and those issued to children – 4 years. To minors aged 12 and younger, the passports are issued without fingerprints.<\/p>\n

Chicu remarked that in Russia a biometrical passport costs \u0432‚¬60, in Romania – \u0432‚¬55, in France – \u0432‚¬88, in Switzerland – \u0432‚¬41, in Germany – \u0432‚¬59, and in Greece – 76 euros.<\/p>\n

The Republic of Moldova began issuing biometrical passports in February 2008, and the first such document was given to then-President Vladimir Voronin.<\/p>\n

A biometrical passport has a chip containing – along with traditional information – the digital photo of the passport holder, digital fingerprints image, electronic certificate and other data specified by international standards. The document does not contain information about the bearer’s children or other family members.<\/p>\n

Also from January 1, 2011 Moldova issues new-type driving licenses to let Moldovan motorists participate freely in international traffic. The new licenses are valid 10 years, and cost as before – 190 lei.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
