By Andrei Munteanu <\/font><\/span><\/em> A couple of hundred priests and their supporters, affiliated to the Orthodox Church Patriarchy of Chisinau and All Moldova, protested against recently introduced mandatory vaccination of children in Moldova. <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

They claim the state authorities should not impose mandatory vaccination of children, as provided by the Law on State Supervision on Public Health, adopted in February 2009, which envisions immunization with 7 mandatory vaccines for children before school enrollment age.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

            <\/span>The stance of the protesters seems highly exaggerated since they claim they are delegated on behalf of all Christian orthodox beliers from the Republic of Moldova, while carrying posters with slogans like: “Do not kill our children” and “Hotineanu – headsman of the people” (Hotineanu is the surname of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Moldova). <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

            <\/span>The aggressive attitude of the respective church priests towards scientific argumentation of various occurrences and measures undertaken in the country, is not surprising at all. <\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

In March 2009 the same religious leaders and supporters were feverously protesting against introducing chip based\/biometric passports for the Moldovan population, as the measure started to be implemented based on new requirements of the EU for Moldova’s eventual adherence to the community, and Moldovans’ strive to comply.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The activism of the Orthodox Priests seems to take place also on the background of obvious signs of communists’ failure to come again to power, as unveiled by recent opinion polls, and not least because during the ruling of communists’ party there used to be quite close relationships between the latter and the Patriarch personally, who is heading a church directly affiliated to Patriarchy of Moscow and All Russia.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
