A digital map which could to be used in works to prevent floods and other calamities will be created in Moldova till late 2012. <\/p>\n

To this end, Japan will provide a grant worth about five million dollars. A cooperation agreement to this effect was signed by the Land Relations and Cadastre Agency (ARFC) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Chisinau today.<\/p>\n

After the signing, ARFC director-general Vasile Grama said that only classical maps are presently used in Moldova to this end, but which have more than 30 years and were compiled in an old legal framework. At the same time, these maps do not comprise new districts which have been set up in Chisinau over the last years.<\/p>\n

Grama stressed that that a new national basic map of the infrastructure of Moldova’s geo-space data could be used by decision-makers for a better analysis of the environment, so as to decide how a road or an aqueduct is to be made better. At the same time, the new map could be used also by farmers interested in the quality of the soil in different Moldovan regions. The new map, that will be digital, will comprise more strata: map of waters, map or roads and will be made at a scale of 1:50,000.<\/p>\n

The head of the Japanese delegation, Akihito Sanjo, told journalists that Japan has earlier financed the elaboration of such digital maps for Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Montenegro, as well as several African states.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
