Moldova needs to have an efficient system of insurance, including compulsory insurance, so as to spare the Government the need to build new houses and bear other huge expenses each time the republic suffers a natural calamity, Prime Minister Vlad Filat stated during a meeting of the Donor Group for Moldova.<\/p>\n

The meeting took place on Monday evening and focused on evaluating the assistance Moldova needs to mitigate flood consequences.<\/p>\n

Filat reported that in parallel with a massive reinforcement of anti-flood dams, the Government is busy handling the problems of people evacuation from disaster areas, providing them with temporary shelters, food, medical assistance, first necessity items.<\/p>\n

He said the Government is doing all in its powers to provide all flood victims with housing before winter. Land plots for new construction have been defined in the villages of Nemteni and Obileni, with more plots to follow in other localities soon. All such grounds shall be necessarily subjected to expert examination to meet strict flood safety requirements. Profiled organizations have already started designing houses for suffered families. According to preliminary estimates, over 500 houses in flood-struck villages are not subject to restoration.<\/p>\n

Filat said the Government is calling upon the development partners to try and find resources so badly needed for overcoming the flood consequences.<\/p>\n

"Moldova is in need of not only financial backing but also needs assistance in studying such situations, in particular in determining land plots suitable for building new houses, as well as in working out new legal frames or, if need be, in amending the current insurance legislation", stressed the Moldovan Prime Minister.
