Subsequently, religious services were held at Birth of God Cathedral and at the church Sfinta Teodora de la Sihla to commemorate the victims of deportation. Next on, three leaders of the alliance, except for acting President Mihai Ghimpu who was on a visit abroad, attended a commemoration rally. <\/p>\n<p>Despite hot temperatures, thousands of children and relatives, as well as people who faced the wave of deportation came in the Great National Assembly Square wearing tricolored ribbons to tell about the difficult times they had passed through and to ask for preferences and legislative amendments that would allow them winning back their goods confiscated by the communist regime. Addressing those present, Prime Minister Vlad Filat recalled that although those tragic events took place 69 years ago, the people who suffered have not been rehabilitated, their goods were not returned and they were regarded as enemies of the people.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The communist regime which is guilty of the ordeal through which Moldovans passed should be outlawed and condemned and people should learn the truth about those times. That is why, we are launching an information campaign so that people get to know how the country&#8217;s best householders were repressed,&quot; Filat said. Both the leader of the Our Moldova Alliance, Serafim Urechean, and of the Democratic Party, Marian Lupu, spoke about the need to outlaw the communist regime which should be held responsible for those events during which dozens of thousands of Moldovans suffered. <\/p>\n<p>The chairwoman of the association of former deportees and political detainees, Valentina Sturza, noted that the deportees want to enjoy the same rights as the war veterans so as to benefit from some preferences. &quot;They snatched us at night, they locked us into railway carriages which were meant for cattle and they took us far away from home. We endured cold, starvation and we did not know where our fathers and brothers were. Therefore, we have the right to preferences after the authorities have left us to oblivion for 69 years,&quot; Sturza said.
