On Thursday evening, 3 people were shot outside Pentagon Metro station, including two Pentagon police officers and the suspected gunman, who have been taken in custody, Fox News reported in its evening programs. <\/p>\n

"We believe we have one person in custody," Chris Layman, a public affairs officer for the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, said. <\/p>\n

All three injured have been taken to George Washington University Hospital’s emergency room, in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n

Lisa McDonald, a spokeswoman for George Washington Hospital, confirmed to CNN that three people were being treated there – two officers and one person believed to be the suspect.<\/p>\n

Layman said the suspect walked up to the main entrance of the Pentagon at 6:40 p.m. and opened fire. He hit two officers. The officers fired back, and the suspect was hit. His injures are more serious.<\/p>\n

The name of suspected gunman was revealed as John Patrick Bedell, who is an U.S. citizen. Reportedly, he was shot in the head. Bedell died Thursday night from head wounds.<\/p>\n

Layman’s statement has been later confirmed by the Pentagon Police Chief Richard Keevill, 36, who said Thursday night that the alleged gunman walked up to the Pentagon prescreen area at the Pentagon Metro entrance facility and when he was asked to show his pass to officers, he reached into his pocket and pulled a gun. Then, Chief Keevill said, he immediately started shooting at the officers. Chief Keevill said the alleged gunman didn’t say anything and showed no emotion before he started firing. He used a handgun that he pulled from his pocket. Chief Keevill said the suspect hit two officers, and fire was returned. The suspect was then hit, and his injuries were critical, according to Chief Keevill. The officers’ injuries were non-life threatening, WTTG\/Fox 5, a Washington, DC TV affiliate of the Fox Broadcasting Company, reported.<\/p>\n

As Washington Post writes, Bedell was seen on a surveillance video near the Pentagon talking to another man. Police were looking for the second man.<\/p>\n

Chief Richard Keevill said the shooter, identified as John Patrick Bedell of Hollister, Calif., spent the last several weeks driving from the West Coast. Police found his car in a local parking garage. Keevill said authorities found more ammunition in his vehicle.<\/p>\n

The Blue-Yellow line at the Pentagon station was closed, but other entrances were open. The Pentagon was on lockdown for a short while. All entrances were later reopened, except the one adjacent to the Metro station.<\/p>\n
