However, he seems to be cherishing some hope yet, for, in his words, the agency has only suspended its activities &quot;for an uncertain period&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>One of the BASA founders, Vasile Botnaru, voiced regret over the work stoppage. He believes tht the local information market will be missing BASA-Press. He said, &quot;Our mass media market has not yet formed completely, so the closure of any agency tells adversely on the development of information services&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>BASA-Press began working on November 5, 1992, and was the first independent private news agency in the independent Republic of Moldova. Infotag was the second one, operating officially since December 1, 1993.
