The Republic of Moldova’s judiciary system will be improved and modernized in conformity with European standards, Minister of Justice, First Deputy Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Alexandru Tanase stated at the presentation of a brochure called "Reform of the Justice System in Moldova. European Standards and National Reality".<\/p>\n

The publication includes the reports made by the participants in the namesake roundtable conference held here last June 15.<\/p>\n

The minister said the new Government of Moldova has taken into account some reporters’ opinions and ideas and included them into the Government’s work program called "European Integration: Freedom, Democracy, Prosperity".<\/p>\n

Alexandru Tanase, a prominent Moldovan lawyer, is convinced the Moldovan judiciary is in bad need for an urgent reorganization, "though this is a kind of process, which is perhaps more complicated and painful than even a reform of economy".<\/p>\n

"It is necessary to change the system of court instances, solve the problem of unending complaints flowing from Moldova to the European Court of Human Rights, introduce amendments to the Electoral Code and to notary service legislation, and to reorganize the Constitutional Court’s work", said the Minister of Justice.<\/p>\n

Tanase stated that his ministry is open to cooperation with the civil society, and that the judiciary system must be independent in its decisions but, at the same time, must act team-like with other power branches.<\/p>\n

The brochure has been prepared by the Moldovan Foundation for Promotion of Reforms in Justice, Security and Defense (PRISA) in collaboration with the Eurasia Foundation-Moldova (EFM), and with assistance rendered by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). Issued by the Politipcom Publishers of Chisinau in the amount of 200 copies, the brochure will be distributed free of charge among jurists and politicians.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
