Six parties – the Communist Party, the Liberal Party (PL), the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), the Democratic Party (PD), the Our Moldova Alliance (AMN) and the Social Democratic Party (PSD) – would enter Moldova’s next parliament if a parliamentary poll were held next Sunday.<\/p>\n

These are the results of the Vox Populi 2009 opinion poll conducted by the association of sociologists and demographers among 1,548 respondents on 11-20 July.<\/p>\n

According to the poll, the Communist Party would win 32.6 per cent of the votes, the PL, 14.9 per cent, the PLDM, 10.8 per cent, the PD, 10.8 per cent, the AMN, 7.8 per cent, and the PSD, 5.2 per cent. About 11 per cent of respondents did not answer the question.<\/p>\n

Of those polled, 62 per cent said that they would participate in the 29 July early election. At the same time, only 25 per cent of them said that they were interested in politics, while about 15 per cent said they were not.<\/p>\n

Acting President Vladimir Voronin continues to be the most trusted Moldovan politician, enjoying the confidence of 18.3 per cent of respondents. He is followed by the deputy head of the opposition Liberal Party [and Chisinau mayor], Dorin Chirtoaca, with 13.2 per cent, Democratic Party leader Marian Lupu with 11.5 per cent, Liberal Democratic Party leader Vlad Filat with 10.4 per cent and Our Moldova Alliance leader Serafim Urechean with 5.4 per cent.<\/p>\n

About half of respondents believe that voters should be better informed about the ongoing election campaign.
\nThe opinion poll also shows that at the 5 April parliamentary election over 88 per cent of respondents found their names in the voter rolls, while 7 per cent did not.<\/p>\n

At the same time, 40 per cent of respondents said that irregularities would take place at the 29 July early election, over 21 per cent said that there would be no irregularities, while others abstained. As many as 42 per cent of respondents believe that some parties are enjoying privileged treatment by certain mass m edia, while 25 per cent believe that all parties enjoy equal access to the media.<\/p>\n

The project was implemented jointly with the Association of European Election Officials.<\/p>\n

Moldova is to hold an early poll after MPs elected on 5 April failed to elect the president. The Central Electoral Commission has registered 10 parties as electoral contenders.
