The 19th issue of the Days of Slavonic Writing and Culture was inaugurated in Chisinau on 21 May 2009. <\/p>\n

The event was opened by a concert which brought together Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Russian, Belarusian and Polish bands. <\/p>\n

In 2009, the Days of Slavonic Writing and Culture are held on 21-26 May in the context of events dedicated to the 650th anniversary of Moldova’s State. <\/p>\n

Deputy Speaker Grigore Petrenco noted that ‘we will further contribute, at the state level, to the development of the Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Bulgarian and other languages spoken in Moldova. To this end, the [Communist] rulling party will come with proposals aimed at creating and improving the studying conditions of the native languages, as well as extending the area of their use’, Petrenco said. <\/p>\n

The director-general of the Interethnic Relations Bureau, Olga Goncearova, specified that in 2009, the Days of Slavonic Writing and Culture cover an extended area. Goncearova said that events of this kind are held in all 36 districts, as well as in the municipalities of Balti and Chisinau. <\/p>\n

‘Moldova is a poly-ethnic country, and the Slavonic minorities have built, are building and will continue to build our state, Moldova’, Gonceartova said. <\/p>\n

A religious service for the dead, dedicated to the Saint Apostles, Chiril and Metodiu brothers, is to be conducted within the Days of Slavonic Writing and Culture, at the Saint Kneaz (prince) Vladimir and Saint George Churches, on 24 May morning. <\/p>\n

On 24 May afternoon, the M.V.Lomonosov library is to host an exhibition by the M-Art Association of Russian painters, followed by a recital of poems dedicated to the 210th anniversary of the Russian poet , A. Pushkin. <\/p>\n
