In reply to them, a group of local parliamentarians have proposed introducing amendments to the Law on State Symbols of the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic and to institutionalizing a national flag of the PMR that would present a piece of cloth consisting of three equal-size horizontal strips &ndash; the upper white, medium blue and lower red ones.<\/p>\n<p>The deputies presume the presence of the Russian flag on the Transnistrian soil would reflect the origin and centuries-long history of Transnistria.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The white-blue-red flag is the state symbol of the Russian Federation &ndash; the successor to the USSR, the country acting as a guarantor [for Transnistrian conflict settlement], the country which the Transnistrian people strive so strongly for. The national flag must serve a symbol of unity of the multi-ethnic Transnistrian people, a symbol marking a common history of the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic and the Russian Federation&rdquo;, wrote the authors of the initiative. They believe the initiative is desired by the Transnistrian society, as can be seen from the returns of the 2006 regional referendum, at which 96% voters spoke out for Transnistria&rsquo;s accession to the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative text has been distributed among all relevant state structures and citizens organizations for a wide debate. It also envisages that a certain distinction sign of Transnistria&rsquo;s will be placed on the Russian tricolor.
