The members of Zdob si Zdub band appealed against the December 28, 2008 decision made by the Ciocana court to the Chisinau Court of Appeals. The Ciocana District Court fined 6,000 lei the driver to blame for the June accident that involved the members of the band and withdrew his license for a period of one year.<\/p>\n

The case will be reexamined on February 18, starting at 10.00.<\/p>\n

In an open letter to the press, the artists say that the punishment is too mild.<\/p>\n

“The driver was under the influence and we avoided a head-on collision only due to the prompt reaction of our driver,” the band’s director Igor Danga says in the letter.<\/p>\n

The artists suffered injuries. Sound engineer Ion Moraru was injured the worst. He got a clavicle fractured and five cuts in the head. He had been in hospital for about a month.<\/p>\n

The insurance companies have not yet paid the damages totaling 50,000 euros.<\/p>\n

“We demand a fair final decision so that the irresponsible drivers receive appropriate punishment. Otherwise, we can officially declare that the legal system is indeed corrupt,” the letter reads.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
