Members of the Independent Press Association (API) say that they will evenhandedly and impartially cover the election campaign for the 2009 parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n

“Aware of the responsibility that the mass media will have during the 2009 election campaign, the politically unaffiliated media outlets that are members of the Independent Press Association commit themselves to covering the campaign disinterestedly and evenhandedly, in accordance with the Association’s statute. During the election campaign, the API members will continue to be objective and will not admit political partisanship in the periodicals that they represent,” a statement issued by the API members says.<\/p>\n

The statement says that all the political organizations and officially registered independent candidates will be offered space for electoral publicity.<\/p>\n

The Association’s members subscribe to the Charter of Free and Fair Elections formulated by the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections “Coalitia-2009” and call on the electronic media outlets and print media in Moldova to do the same.<\/p>\n

The Association also calls on all the editors to not allow themselves influenced by the election contenders and refrain from manipulating the public opinion, observing the principles of professional ethics and pluralism of opinions.<\/p>\n
