A group of Moldovan civil society organizations launched the Civil Initiative for a Clean Parliament. The initiative authors aim to monitor the candidates that will run in the 2009 legislative elections and encourage the people with the right to vote to choose the non-discredited candidates. <\/p>\n

The authors of the initiative are the Association for Participatory Democracy, the Independent Press Association, the Center for Analysis and Prevention of Corruption, the Independent Journalism Center, the Journalistic Investigations Center, the Center for Promotion of Freedom of Expression and Access to Information “Acces-info” and Soros-Moldova Foundation. <\/p>\n

The election contenders will be monitored by a group of professional journalists according to “integrity criteria” worked out by the Civil Initiative for a Clean Parliament and coordinated with the political parties. The given criteria will be used to measure the creditability and incorruptibility of the future MPs. \"\"<\/p>\n

The reports presented by the journalists will be verified by a group of reviewers (politically unaffiliated persons known by the general public and with experience in journalism) and jurists. Afterward, the reports will be analyzed by members of the Civil Initiative for a Clean Parliament and there will be drawn up the list of candidates that do not deserve to be MPs. <\/p>\n

If the political parties accept to withdraw the discredited candidates from their lists, the Civil Initiative for a Clean Parliament will not make the given information public. Otherwise, the list will be published. <\/p>\n

According to the Public Opinion Barometer for October 2008 compiled by the Public Policy Institute, 83.5% of those surveyed consider that all, the largest part or at least some of the politicians in Moldova are corrupt, while 0.2% said none of the politicians is corrupt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
