The heat supply to Chisinau’s Centru and Buiucani districts and to suburbs was resumed after the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), the local authorities and Moldova-Gaz and Termocom have signed a memorandum. <\/p>\n

Under the document, CMC is to approve a new heating tariff of 740 lei per gigacalorie. The population will pay only 540 lei per gigacalorie, while the rest will be covered from the municipal budget. Certain groups of residents will also benefit from compensations for heat, according to the regulations approved in October.

\nThe local authorities will also pay 148 million lei to Termocom, which represents the current debt of the municipality, as well as 60 million lei that will accumulate until this yearend. <\/p>\n

At the same time, Moldova-Gaz will resume the supply of natural gas in the necessary volume to the heat suppliers, while Termocom will make sure that all the buildings in Chisinau are heated. <\/p>\n

A number of municipal councilors criticized the memorandum, saying that it contains mainly the obligations of the municipal authorities. <\/p>\n

Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said that the document should be adopted because he does not want to be accused of unwillingness to remedy the situation. He also said that the City Hall did not approve the heating tariff of 843 lei per gigacalorie proposed by Termocom and it is unclear how the tariff was decreased to 740 lei per gigacalorie. <\/p>\n

The heat supply to Buiucani and Centru districts and to suburbs was halted on November 4 after Moldova-Gaz stopped supplying natural gas to Termocom because of the latter’s debts. On November 7, the City Hall transferred 36 million lei to Moldova-Gaz, but the energy companies did not resume supplying natural gas and heat. <\/p>\n
